How to take care of Black Barlow

If supplied as bare root plants please soak the bare roots for 12-18 hours (do not exceed 24 hours). This allows them to take up the maximum amount of water without doing any injury to the plant. For better results it is best to mix the soil with some organic matter and plant in clumps.

Black Barlow will benefit by placing mulch around the base each spring and remove faded flower heads to encourage new growth. Black Barlow do not always produces flowers in their first summer and are not a long-lived perennial, so Black Barlow can be replaced them every 3-4 years.

Cut down stems once the flowering is over and Black Barlow will re-appear next year. If Black Barlow finds a good home, self-seeding can be counted upon and can be sown in early spring under glass. Black Barlow are prone to a fungal disease, known as rust, spray with a general anti fungicide during early summer.

PLEASE NOTE: all parts of this plant if harmful if eaten.
