How to take care of Chamaecyparis obtusa Teddy Bear
In general : Chamaecyparis obtusa Teddy Bear dislike wet feet, therefore plant in well-drained soil which has been improved with some compost, you can improve soil drainage by mixing in some sand or grit to the planting holes. Chamaecyparis obtusa Teddy Bear have strong preference for sandy, acidic soils. At the start of winter water the Chamaecyparis obtusa Teddy Bear well so that they go into the winter with a moisture boost. As Chamaecyparis obtusa Teddy Bear are evergreen trees, they keep on dehydrating all winter long. Avoid shading the base of the plant to prevent the lower part also turning brown - it does not stand shade. Do not apply fertilizer until your trees have been in the ground for at least 6 -8 weeks. It could burn the new roots. During Feb and March add some Natural Kieserite (Magnesium Sulphate) on top of the soil to improve the foliage colour, if you cannot obtain it, organic fertilizer will suffice. Chamaecyparis obtusa Teddy Bear require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and should only be pruned to remove any dead and old wood.
Replant in large well-drained container and a fertile soil. If you can use acid soil for best results. Give some organic fertiliser on top of the soil. Place the container on a sunny location (protected from strong wind) and water and feed regularly. The tree will grow to about 20-30 inches in diameter. Remove any diseased branches Place the compressed soil tablet(s) in a bucket and add 1 pint of water per tablet to dissolve them. Mix the soil around until you have a fine structure. Press the fertilizer tablet with your finger into the soil until it's top is just about covered by the soil. The tablet will last for up to 6 months, slowly releasing nutrients.
