Sawara false cypress is a hardy evergreen conifer native to Japan with a large ornamental value. This slow-growing hardy cultivar forms a dwarf flat-topped mound of lacy dark green foliage.

The new growth emerges golden yellow and retains the colour throughout the season before fading in autumn. Older foliage provides a dark green contrast, which draws attention to the thread-like golden new growth.

Suitable for planting in rock gardens, containers, as an single specimen or in combination with other small shrubs.

How to take care of Filifera Nana

In general : Filifera Nana dislike wet feet, therefore plant in well-drained soil which has been improved with some compost, you can improve soil drainage by mixing in some sand or grit to the planting holes.

Filifera Nana have strong preference for sandy, acidic soils. At the start of winter water the Filifera Nana well so that they go into the winter with a moisture boost. As Filifera Nana are evergreen trees, they keep on dehydrating all winter long.

Avoid shading the base of the plant to prevent the lower part also turning brown - it does not stand shade. Do not apply fertilizer until your trees have been in the ground for at least 6 -8 weeks. It could burn the new roots.

During Feb and March add some Natural Kieserite (Magnesium Sulphate) on top of the soil to improve the foliage colour, if you cannot obtain it, organic fertilizer will suffice. Filifera Nana require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and should only be pruned to remove any dead and old wood.
