How to take care of Daphne Mezereum

For best results soak the roots for approx 2 hrs before planting, water well after planting and for the next few weeks. The plant prefers medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils that retains a little moisture.

Daphne plants thrive in bright, indirect sunlight, so a location facing north to northeast is best. Daphne plants are sensitive to chemicals, so it is best to avoid using fertiliser. Avoid moving the established plants.

Pruning is not normally required and hard pruning should be avoided. Remove any unwanted straggly bits in early spring. Flowers are borne along the stem late in winter, followed by a display of shiny red berries in summer.

Plants tend to be short-lived in due to excessive seed bearing. ATTENTION; Daphne shrubs are poisonous especially the berries.
