Create a happy world for wild birds in your garden!

It’s just amazing to view a bird’s first encounter with the box, to building a nest within the box, to hatching their young and feeding the fledglings up through the summer until they can leave the nest. Many people often keep webcams now on feeders and houses so that the activity within the box can be monitored and to get even closer to nature.

Birds just want a site, which is secure and weatherproof, and as safe as possible from predators. Do not put anything in the nest - the birds will add their own nesting materials. Boxes may either have an entrance hole or be open-fronted. There is no standard, accurate design for a nest box. Some nest boxes can be highly decorated and complex, sometimes mimicking human houses.

After the end of each breeding season, all nestboxes should be taken down cleaned with a mild disinfectant and with boiling water to kill any parasites. Annual cleaning is best carried out in October or November.

Different sizes of nest-box suit different species of birds and it is the diameter of the entrance hole that will most accurately determine which birds find the house attractive.

We supply nest boxes with size 31, 32, 33, 35 mm entry holes and will attract birds such as Blue tits, Sparrows, Bluebirds, Wrens, Woodpeckers and Swallows.

The open front nest box will attract such birds as Robin red breasts, Wrens and Pied wagtails
