How to take care of Phlox paniculata Bright Eyes
Prepare a partially shaded, sheltered site with well-drained soil, before planting removing any large clumps and stones. Allow sufficient space between plants for good air circulation this helps prevent disease. Do not water Phlox at night or overhead watering as this causes powdery mildew, allow foliage enough time to dry out before nightfall. During the active growing season fertilise with a water soluble fertiliser. They are greedy plants, so apply a mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure deep in early spring. The long stems need support in spring before the flowers appear. Removing faded flower heads and pruning until mid-summer will produce more stems and a later blooms whilst also help preventing unwanted self-seeding. Plants can be lifted and divided in the spring and autumn. If supplied as bare roots soak them for 12-18 hours (do not exceed 24 hours). This allows them to take up the maximum amount of water without doing any injury to the plant.
