Good news! A shaded garden need not be a dull one, it can be host to many wonderful flowering shrubs and foliage plants. We've put together this lovely collection to brighten dull areas of your garden.

Rhododendron Anah Kruschke is wonderful variety flowering with compact clusters of deep crimson purple flowers during May - June and rich green evergreen leaves.

Ranunculus have fully double flowers with tightly clustered petals. Each stem produces one to several flowers. They will grow equally well in full sun or partial shade and make wonderful cut flowers.

Camellia japonica pink produces spectacular large pink sweetly scented blooms early in the year. The immaculate showy flowers are beyond compare and are complimented by the shiny, waxy, deep green leaves.

Astilbes have glorious arching plumes made up of tiny flowers in mid-summer. They are clump-forming perennial plants with deep rich, glossy fern-like foliage which is finely dissected with crinkly-edges.

How to take care of Pink Shade Garden

General -always water well after planting to stimulate growth. Remove the faded flower heads as they appear as this helps to promote new growth. Astilbes should be planted in well-prepared moist soil.

Plant the tubers 15 cms deep and 30 cms apart cover well. They should not be allowed to dry out. In warmer climates a thick mulch layer of well-rotted manure helps the soil to retain moisture, and in colder areas it will help protect again frost damage.

Divide well-established clumps every 4 years. Ranuncules tubers need to soak overnight in warm water. Plant with the claws pointing down in well-drained prepared slightly acid soil (add sand and organic matter for drainage).

Remove foliage when it has died back after flowering. Rhododendrons and Camellias should be planted in a humus rich well-drained acidy soil add some peat to planting area before planting and again each spring for best results.

Shallow planting is important planting too deep can stunt growth, 10-15 cm deep is sufficient.
