Plants for Acidic Soil

Lees verder

For Acid loving ericaceous plants the Ph factor should be between 1 and 6 to grow them successfully.

Acid-loving plants need to be planted in lime free soil that has a sufficiently low Ph figure (Ph = potens hydrogenum) a factor that describes its capability for binding hydrogen.

Azaleas, Camellias, Heathers and Rhododendrons are all acid loving plants, make sure that they are planted in Ericaceous compost.

If you have to plant acid loving plants in an alkaline soil create a planting hole three times bigger than what you need and fill it with rhododendron compost or peat, mix in the remaining topsoil and plant the plant. During winter apply an additional top layer of peat to retain the acid conditions. Compost tends to be neutral and can be used to correct an imbalance in your soil.
