Portulacaria afra Variegata is a spreading, slow growing small-leaved succulent similar to a jade plant.
It’s also known as the Rainbow Bush because of the variegated cream and green colour leaves which contrasts beautifully with the attractive reddish-brown stems. The succulent stems will thicken very fast giving the plant an old appearance at a young age.
This variety can make an excellent bonsai subject.

How to take care of Portulacaria afra Variegata
Portulacaria requires warm temperatures and bright light to thrive. Choose a location with indirect sunlight and is draft free. Overly bright sunlight can char the leaves and cause them to drop off. When transplanting ensure that the container you choose has wide drainage holes and use a well-drained soil. The best mixture for this type of plant is cactus soil or potting soil cut by half with sand, vermiculite or pumice. Remember all succulents should not have wet feet. Let the soil dry out between each watering. Make sure the pot drains well and don’t leave a saucer with water sitting under the container. Fertilize in late winter to early spring with an indoor plant fertilizer diluted by half. Cuttings can be taken in spring or summer for best results.
