How to take care of Spinach Nores
Spinach prefers a well draining neutral soil and can be grown in full sun or partial shade. It is a fast grower and a heavy feeder, in order to produce dark, healthy leaves it needs to be fed regularily with fertiliser high in nitrogen. For best results dig manure into the soil a month prior to planting. Sow seeds every other week from March for a continuous supply of Spinach throughout the season until the frost arrives. Sow the spinach seeds thinly in rows or scattered. For growing young leaves, sow them at 3 -4 cm apart, and at 25cm for full grown plants. Cover lightly with soil, firm in place and water well. Keep the soil moist until germination. Once the plants have a grown leaves, you can begin to thin the plants to about 15cm apart. Thinnings can be eaten. If space is limited, you can easily grow spinach in containers or a windowbox, however plants grown in containers need more water to prevent them from drying out. Harvest spinach leaves as you need them from the outside of the plant, or the entire plants before they begin to flower. If can be overwintered in sub-zero temperatures if mluched and protected.
