This bulb produces a most unique flower, not only the shape of the flower is extra ordinary but also the color, it is deep carmine red with a golden dust over the deep red velvet gloss. This lovely plant is not commonly known but already in culture since 1593 where it was compared with the embroidered Cross on the cloaks of Knights of St. James of Calatrova . This plant has been originally taken by the Spanish from Mexico

How to take care of Sprekelia Gold Dust Lily St.James Lily
Sprekelia Gold Dust Lily St.James Lily are ideal for containers or planting out in warmer zones. Plant Sprekelia Gold Dust Lily St.James Lily 2/3 below the level of the soil so that 1/3 is above the soil. Make sure that the soil is very well-drained and that the container has adequate drainage holes, add grit or coarse sand to the soil to improve drainage. Water well after planting to stimulate growth and place in a sunny sheltered spot. Outdoors it flowers in summer, you may want to keep this plant indoors so that it flowers during late winter/early spring, if so keep it at a modest warm room with plenty of sunshine. If grown outdoors take it inside before first frosts in autumn. It needs to be dry when dormant so stop watering when the leaves begin to die back and resume watering once it starts to grow again. Sprekelia Gold Dust Lily St.James Lily often don't bloom every year so patience is required.
