Kiwi Jenny is a self-fertile variety meaning you just need one plant to produce delicious fruit. A rapid deciduous climber it is ideal for training onto a patio-pergola or up against a warm south facing wall. As well as producing tasty fruit high in vitamin C. Jenny will make an attractive addition to your garden with it's pretty yellow flowers on lush green foliage. This variety is reasonably hardy so it may need protection in very cold parts of the country.

How to take care of Self Fertile Kiwi deliciosa Jenny

This plant needs space as it is very dominant and rampant. They will not tolerate poor drainage. For best results mix soil with sand and enriched with organic matter. The shoot tips are susceptible to frost in early spring, cover with a drape at night and remove during the day. It will take two years before it starts producing fruit, and shouldn't be pruned until then. In summer, feed with liquid fertiliser (tomato feed) once a month until September. Prolonged sunshine is need to ensure proper ripening of the fruit and colour. The fruit is ready to be picked when brown and soft, usually in October. After the plant has fruited in late summer or in late winter, remove all canes older than 3 years to keep the plant young. Prune in February, and give the plant a good dressing of well-rotted compost and some organic fertiliser each April. Kiwi needs a spacious sunny and warm site with semi-fertile, acidic, fresh soil. Dig a hole 2ftx 2ft. Spread the root outs evenly and add a cane for support against winds.Do not over-fertilize: such plants flower very reluctantly.

Please be advised this plant has been cut back to help promote new growth.
