Great value on plants that would cost a great deal more at a garden centre. I’ll keep on buying from gardens4you.

Lavender

Lavender is a low-maintenance perennial native to the Mediterranean region. These aromatic lavender blossoms bring a wonderful scent to your garden. We have the most popular varieties such as the French lavender 'Lavandula stoechas' and the English lavender 'munstead, hidcote angustifolia' in shades of purple and blue. They attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators. They thrive from early summer through fall and can be planted in containers and gardens. Did you know that lavender is also ideal for creating informal hedges.

French Lavender or English Lavender?

Lavender plants come in different varieties, we stock the French variety Stoechas, and 2 English varieties Munstead and Hidcote.

How to Care for a Lavender Hedge

Lavender makes a good Hedge with a height of up to 60cm. Make a trench of 30 cm deep and 20 cm wide, fill this up with a mix of potting compost and coarse sand. Plant the lavender plants with a spacing of 15cm (7 plants on a meter). Give lavender in early spring a dung with a organic fertiliser pellets and during May and July a compound fertiliser.

Important: as soon as the flowers fade into a gray blue trim down the flowerstalks to just under neath the first row of foliage (top down). This keeps the growth Healthy and New wood underneath will be grow. During end of March - early April trim the whole Hedge down to 2/3 of its height (take 1/3 off) this will stimulate growth of New flower shoot on the wood grown during summer of last year. By doing so you will get more flowers on a Healthy strong Hedge which is well shaped.
