This deciduous Standard Walnut (Juglans regia) is also known as English common walnut. Its large, pinnate foliage is aromatic when young and turns golden yellow in the autumn. Green flowers bloom in May, followed in autumn by a green husk, which encloses the delicious, edible nuts within. Photo is for illustration only

How to take care of Standard Walnut Juglans regia
The common walnut prefers fertile and well-drained soil, but will grow well in pretty much any soil in full sun or partial shade. Dig a hole twice the width of the container and make sure that the ground is well loosened. Water well after planting. Watering should be thorough, so the ground is soaked. Let the soil almost dry out before watering again. Protect young plants in winter. Prune if necessary in late summer/early autumn when in full leaf, or when completely dormant to prevent bleeding. Apply in March a 2 inch layer of mulch of well-rotte organic matter around the base of the plant.
