Astrantia major Claret is the darkest red astrantia out there. Producing clusters of stunning, intensely-coloured dark deep, ruby red flowers on near black wiry stems, that are complemented by the deeply cut mid-green leaves which are tinged around the edges with maroon when young.
Astrantia plants are old cottage garden favourites, superb perennials for under trees, or in the front a moist border where you can enjoy its striking colour.

How to take care of Astrantia major Claret
Astrantia or Masterwort plants are very popular for flower arrangements both fresh and dried. This variety is a hardy herbaceous perennial. You can plant from late autumn until early spring. It needs sun but prefer a cool partially shaded position. Use a well-drained soil mixed with organic matter. Flowering period is between summer and autumn. Take away dead flower heads after flowering. Lift and divide every 3-4years. Please soak the bare roots for 12-18 hours (do not exceed 24 hours). This allows them to take up the maximum amount of water without doing any injury to the plant.
