How to take care of Standard Mahonia media Winter Sun
Place your standard Mahonia Winter Sun in a partially shaded location with protection from winter winds. It prefers moist and fertile soil. Water plants well during dry spells. For best results apply some slow release fertiliser in March. If desired it can be pruned back after flowering. If you are growing this plant in a pot make sure that the pot is well protected from harsh winter frosts, you can do this by either burying the entire pot in the soil and mulching around the top with a few inches of bark or leaves, or by wrapping the pot in a sack filled with straw and placing it in a sheltered spot or you could move the pot indoors to an unheated room, it does not need much water in winter however do not allow it to dry out completely. If planted directly into the garden it will stay hardy until min 15 degrees.
