How to take care of Ceanothus Gloire de Versailles
For best results soak the roots for approx. 2 hrs. before planting and water well after planting and for the next few weeks until the roots become established. Choose a shelter sunny position, preferable against a south or west-facing wall. Applying a general balanced fertilizer in spring after pruning will encourage new growth. When planted in exposed situations Ceanothus Gloire de Versailles can be affected by wind and frost injury. If this happens just prune back any frost damaged stems to healthy wood. Avoid excess moisture levels as they can damage the roots which leads to poor growth. If Ceanothus Gloire de Versailles is planted too shallow on chalky soils Ceanothus Gloire de Versailles can suffer from yellowing of the leaves between the veins (chlorosis). Ceanothus Gloire de Versaillesis also vulnerable to honey fungus and scale insect attack. Little pruning is required for evergreen varieties, but if you need to prune, then do this in winter or early spring. Propagate deciduous Ceanothus Gloire de Versailles shrubs from softwood cuttings from late spring to mid-summer.
