How to take care of Parthenocissus Veitchii Ornamental Grape
For best results soak the roots for approx 2 hrs before planting and water well after planting and for the next few weeks. Veitchii has purple flushed leaves when young that take on spectacular reddish purple tinge in autumn. These climbers need a little support at first, but they soon become self-clinging. They thrive in sun & shade. Dig a hole 45cm (18") deep and approx 30cm (12") away from the fence, wall, trellis, an old tree or an arch. Fill with a mixture of well-rotted manure or compost & loamy soil (clay & sand mix). To prune, remove unwanted or overcrowded growth during the summer. Parthenocissus clings to the surface by disks rather than penetrating roots, it will not harm the masonry but will keep a building cooler by shading the wall surface during the summer, saving money on air conditioning.
