This Chinese Aster is a wonderful addition to your garden, it produces long lasting multicoloured spider-like blooms prolifically late summer when most other flowers have faded. Removing the faded flower heads prolongs the blooming period. Also suitable for growing in pots and planters. Makes a fantastic cut flower. Sow mid March - mid April under frames or mid April - mid May in beds in open ground; transplant after 5-6 weeks. Germination: 8 - 12 days. Keep soil moist during germination. Plant aster in a different position each year.

Start the seeds off indoors in seedtrays or old paper egg cartons thse can be planted directly out in the garden, the egg cartons are biodegradable and the soil will help the plant with nutrients. Plant the seeds approx ½ cm deep, cover with a thin layer of soil. Place in a sunny location and keep them moist. Once germination has occurred this should take 8-12 days the seedlings can be transplanted. Plant outdoors when they are approx 10cm tall and all chance of frost has passed.
